Welcome, Intended Parents!

We hope this general outline of the processes for intended parents gives you an idea of the exciting journey ahead. Some families already have embryos created and are only in search of a surrogate. For others, their journey begins with embryo creation with the help of an egg donor before moving onto pregnancy or surrogacy. We’ve outlined the process for both programs below.

**Please note we only accept 20 Intended Parents in our surrogacy program at one time. We do not keep a waitlist, but will review applications as they come in and schedule a consultation as we have room. Please contact us if you have questions.

The Egg Donation Process

The process outlined below covers the Egg Donation Program.

Applying to Be Intended Parent(s)

Applying to Be Intended Parent(s)

1-3 weeks

First, you will complete our Intended Parent Application. Once the application is received, someone from our team will contact you to arrange a zoom consultation with our program director (and CEO), Angela Truppe. On the zoom consult, Angela will go over the process in more detail and answer any specific questions you might have.

Getting Started & Completing Your Profile

1-2 weeks

If you feel ready to move ahead with us after the zoom consult, the first invoice for $1,500 + taxes will come due. We will email you more information and documents to get you started on building a short “Egg IP Profile” including photos of you/your family, along with a few other administrative tasks.

Time to find your match! You’ll browse our donor database and we will send your profile along to whomever you would like to donate to you. We like to give our donors the option to go ahead with you or not as a courtesy to them, but almost always the donors will say yes.

Once the match has been confirmed, we will send a match sheet to your fertility clinic. Then the clinic will arrange next steps with the donor directly, including completing any outstanding tests that need done and book an appointment for medical clearance by the fertility doctor.

Once the donor has been cleared, the second/final invoice will come due for $4,500 + taxes. Also, we will send referrals for completion of intentions counselling and legal contracts.

Retrieving Eggs

The clinic will arrange with the donor to book the retrieval based on their cycle. This is always booked one full cycle in advance, so the clinic has time to complete the Health Canada testing required to be done within 30 days of the retrieval, as well as educate the donor about medication and other items related to donation.

During her next cycle, she begins medications following the clinic’s instructions. The first donor reimbursement of $2,500 will be due to the donor on the day that she starts medication. About two weeks later, the retrieval will take place. On retrieval day, the second/final instalment of the donor reimbursements (another $2,500) are due to her.

The Surrogacy Process

The process outlined below covers the surrogacy portion of an intended parent journey.

We will then send along more information and documents to get you started on building a profile including your story and a few photos. You’ll also complete a few other administrative tasks. Then, we add your profile to our website and database for our surrogates to browse.

Then the waiting game begins! It could take some time, but we will notify you once a surrogate has selected your profile for her top 5 and send you a short profile about her. It is then your responsibility to contact her directly and arrange a time to chat with her more (typically done via video call). A surrogate will typically chat with each of the 5 Intended Parents 1-2 times before deciding which couple she will carry for. She will let the IPs know whether they have been selected or not.

If you were chosen – congrats! – we can begin the next steps for transfer of embryos! The clinic will be a lot more involved during this portion of the journey and will coordinate an official medical clearance appointment for the surrogate. Once cleared, the final of $13,000 invoice comes due. We will also send referrals for completion of intentions counselling and legal contracts.

If you were not chosen, try not to lose hope. It happens to 4/5 couples, so you are not alone in the disappointment. Try to come to terms with this process, as it can be difficult, but remember to be patient. After all, the surrogate only has one uterus!

Next, the clinic will arrange with the surrogate to transfer based on her next cycle. Fingers crossed for a successful transfer and subsequent pregnancy and birth!
